History of PIER PLUS

As early as 2011, Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY and Universität Hamburg formed a strategic partnership: PIER. Since then, they have worked together to support cross-institutional research projects, ensure high-quality training for young academics, and provide an innovation-friendly culture at the Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld (SCHB) science campus.

Since the collaboration in PIER has proved to be so successful, it served as a model for an even larger cooperation of universities and research institutions in the Hamburg metropolitan region: the strategic partnership PIER PLUS established in 2019.
